Michael Cusacks

Michael Cusacks GAA Club was founded on 30 January 1988 and was called after Clare man, Michael Cusack who founded the GAA in Ireland, in 1884. From humble beginnings Cusacks has blossomed into the premier club in Sydney and the only club in NSW which proudly boasts teams in all three codes - hurling, mens football and ladies football. Its mens football team were first into action in 1988 and the hurlers quickly followed them in 1989. The club quickly went from strength to strength and in 1991 its newly formed ladies football team were worthy winners of the first ever ladies football championship. Since its foundation Cusacks have been triumphant in all NSW competitions.

Michael Cusacks GAA Club welcomes everybody - regardless of age, ability or background and is the largest club in NSW. A welcoming hand is extended to Irish immigrants, visa workers and backpackers who are keen to play their national sport and it also welcomes Aussies and Kiwis and other nationalities who want to experience the excitement and joy of hurling and Gaelic football.

The club trains at two venues throughout the year - in Queens Park near Bondi Junction from January to March and in Wentworth Park in the city from April to September. The first competition of the season is a 10-a-side competition, which runs for 6 weeks in February at Wentworth Park. The next outing is a 1-day tournament, which is held near Gosford in mid-March. The NSW GAA League commences in April and is followed by the Championship, which runs from June until mid September. All League and Championship games are played on Sundays in Princes Park, Auburn.
